Why are O'2Nails cartridges priced like this?
The cartridge ink chemistry is patent-protected. O'2Nails spent 7,000+ R&D hours developing the print gel that bonds the ink between a clear base coat and a clear top coat — without that proprietary chemistry, the print fades within days. The cartridge price reflects the IP, not just the volume of ink inside.
Cheaper "compatible" cartridges sold on AliExpress and certain Amazon listings are not actually compatible. They use generic inkjet ink that doesn't bond to the gel layers. How long does a cartridge last?
Two factors:
Print volume. An the cartridge yields ~1,000 nails. At a salon running 50 nail-art sets/month (500 nails), that's roughly one cartridge every 5-6 weeks of normal use.
Storage conditions. Sealed cartridges have a 12-month shelf life if stored in their original silica-bag pouch at room temperature. Once installed in the printer, the cartridge stays usable for 6-9 months even at irregular print volumes (the anti-drying chemistry keeps the nozzles clear).
Most salons running V11/V12-tier units order 2-3 cartridges per month. We recommend keeping at least one spare on hand — discovering you're out of ink mid-appointment is the worst possible failure mode.

Bigger packs: should you buy 4 or 6 at a time?
If you are running 50+ nail-art sets per month, the 4- or 6-cartridge refill packs usually make sense: they have the lowest per-cartridge price (about C$319 and C$301.50, against about C$337 on the 2-pack) and remove the "out of cartridge" risk.
If you're running fewer than 30 sets per month, manual reordering when you hit 1 cartridge of stock is fine. Cartridges have a 12-month shelf life so you can order 2-3 at a time without worrying about expiry.
Storage best practices
- Original packaging: Keep cartridges in the original silica-bag pouch when not installed. The silica bag manages humidity (the leading enemy of inkjet ink).
- Temperature: Store between 5°C and 28°C. Don't leave in a hot car for hours. Don't freeze.
- Light: Out of direct sunlight. UV degrades the cartridge plastic over time.
- Orientation: Store flat (nozzle face up). Storing on the side for weeks can let ink settle and require a longer wake-up cycle.
Counterfeit warning
If you see the cartridge or cartridges priced below $50 on Amazon, eBay, or AliExpress — they're either counterfeit or expired returns. The genuine cartridge wholesale cost makes those prices impossible. Counterfeit cartridges:
