Why owners can't see this
Three reasons, and I see them in this order constantly:
- It feels like overhead. The tech is on the clock either way. So the chair-time cost feels free. It isn't — those 33 hours have an opportunity cost (the gel set you didn't book) and a saturation cost (the tech who burns out faster doing high-skill work).
- The math is invisible in the books. Your P&L shows nail-art revenue as a positive line. It doesn't show the gel set you couldn't fit. Lost-revenue accounting is harder than realized-cost accounting, so most owners just don't run it.
- The fix sounds expensive until it isn't. A V11 is $2,999. If it recovers $2,821 of chair time per chair per year (one chair, conservative), it pays for itself in a little over 12 months. Most owners don't compute the payback at all because they're anchored on the sticker price.
